FURNITURE DESIGN
While in Italy, I had the opportunity to unleash my creativity in regards to Furniture Design. Given certain sustainable and transformable requirements, I developed two unique pieces over the course of the semester— "Armadeus" and "Revolve."
Derived from the combination of “armchair” and pianist Wolfgang "Amadeus" Mozart, "Armadeus," is a Victorian-inspired chaise lounge with musical roots. Constructed from a baby grand piano, the piece is completely recycled: from the wood frame, lacquered finish, to the repurposed piano legs. After refining my initial idea through hand sketches and sketch models, I created 2D technical drawings in AutoCAD and modeled the chaise lounge in Rhino, before rendering images of the final product.
I then focused on creating a transformable piece for my next assignment. Targeted towards college students, the goal of "Revolve" was to create an economical, adaptable piece of furniture that individuals can easily manipulate to meet every need within a limited space: bed, desk, and seating. Following a similar process, I completed hand sketches, sketch models, and technical drawings in AutoCAD. However, I utilized 3D Studio Max to model and animate my final design— an added touch that enabled me to clearly demonstrate "Revolve's" transformable qualities.
